What ages does Chabad Early Learning Center cater to?

At Chabad Early Learning Center, the youngest age accepted is a child who will already be two years old by September 1. We go up through Pre-K, where children typically turn 5 during that year. While most children start in our Toddler class at age 2, some start at age 3 as well.

What is the student-teacher ratio in your preschool?

Our preschool maintains a low teacher-to-student ratio to ensure individual attention and support. While it varies according to the class age, on average we have a 4-1 ratio.

Who are your teachers?

Our lead teachers are highly qualified and experienced professionals with relevant degrees and licenses in early childhood education. They also participate in ongoing professional development to stay updated on best practices in the field. Most of them have 10 to 15+ years in service.

What are your policies regarding health, safety, and cleanliness?

Chabad Early Learning Center is licensed under the New York City Department of Health: Bureau of Day Care. We are required to follow all health mandates that are communicated to us throughout the year. Our preschool prioritizes health, safety, and cleanliness by following strict guidelines and procedures, including regular cleaning and sanitizing of surfaces, toys, and materials, as well as monitoring the health of children and staff.

How do you communicate with parents about their child's progress and any concerns?

Open communication between the school’s director, teachers and parents is an integral component of Chabad Early Learning Center. All notifications are sent via email. In addition, each Friday children go home with a printed class newsletter containing details of the child’s week in school. In order to enhance communication with our Chabad ELC families, we use Brightwheel, a communication app. Teachers post photos and classroom news a few times a week so that you can get a virtual “peek” into the classrooms. Teachers and the director are always available to speak with parents directly as well. There are two parent-teacher conferences during the year.

What are the school hours, and do you offer extended care or after-school programs?

School hours vary according to class.
Toddlers & Pre-Nursery: 9:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.
Nursery: 9:30 a.m. – 1:30 p.m.
Pre-K: 9:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.
Fridays for all classes: dismissal is at 12:30 p.m.

Early dropoff starts at 8:30 a.m. and extended day options through 4:00 p.m. (Monday – Thursday) are available for all children.

How do you ensure the safety of the children and handle emergencies during school hours?

The safety of the children at Chabad ELC is of paramount importance. The facility goes through a daily safety check by the administration. Our staff is trained in first aid and CPR and follow a safety checklist throughout the day. There is a safety guard by the main entrance at all times when school is in session. We have comprehensive emergency preparedness plans in place, conduct regular safety drills and ensure secure entry and exit procedures to maintain a safe environment.

How can parents get involved in the school community and their child's learning experience?

Chabad ELC is renowned for its warm and welcoming community. The ways in which parents come together to support each other and the school is a key component of what makes Chabad ELC such a special place for both the children and our families. We encourage parent involvement in various ways, such as volunteering in the classroom, participating in special events, and joining our parent-teacher association. We also welcome parent input and feedback to enhance our school community and learning experiences.

What is the tuition fee and are there financial assistance options?

Tuition fees vary depending on the program and schedule chosen. The tuition fee also includes daily hot lunches, snacks and field trips. We have need-based tuition grants and payment plans to help families with affordability. Also, there’s no application fee.

What is your policy on snacks and meals, and do you accommodate dietary restrictions or allergies?

Our preschool offers healthy snacks and meals, and we accommodate dietary restrictions and allergies. We work closely with families to ensure that children’s nutritional needs are met while adhering to any specific dietary requirements.
